Snow-capped peaks rise straight out of a barren brown landscape, the kind of contrast that makes Ladakh look almost unreal even when you’re standing right there. Pangong Tso shifts through blue, turquoise, and deep navy depending on the hour, a lake so still it doubles the sky on a clear afternoon. This is Ladakh, and nothing about scrolling through photos prepares you for the actual scale of it.

It’s also a place that demands respect, not just enthusiasm. Altitude here climbs past 17,000 feet, oxygen thins fast, and acclimatization isn’t optional; it’s the difference between a trip you enjoy and one that sends you home early.

Samisha Holidays runs this Leh Ladakh tour package 6N/7D from Pune as a fully escorted journey with built-in acclimatisation, oxygen-equipped backup vehicles, and local Ladakhi drivers who know exactly how this terrain behaves. Departures available from Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi hubs.

Tour Highlights — Leh Ladakh 7 Days from Pune
Day-by-Day Leh Ladakh Itinerary

Land in Leh, and the very first instruction matters more than any sightseeing plan: rest. Check in at your hotel, and spend the day moving slowly, drinking water constantly, and resisting the urge to explore too much too soon. Leh already sits at over 11,000 feet, and your body needs this full day to adjust before the real altitude begins.

Safety tip: No alcohol, no heavy exertion, and no skipping meals today. A mild headache is normal; anything stronger should be reported to your tour escort immediately.

A gentle introduction to Ladakh's landscape and culture. Visit Magnetic Hill, where vehicles appear to defy gravity on a stretch of road that plays tricks with the eye, then continue to the Sangam point where the Indus and Zanskar rivers meet in two distinct shades of water. Shey and Thiksey Monasteries round out the day, their whitewashed walls and prayer flags set dramatically against barren mountains.

Khardung La, at 17,582 feet, marks your highest point so far and one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Snow lingers here well into summer, and the thin air makes even short walks feel like real effort. Descend into Nubra Valley, where Hunder's sand dunes create the surreal sight of a desert flanked by snow peaks, and double-humped Bactrian camels wander where you'd least expect them. Diskit Monastery, with its giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley, closes out the day.

Safety tip: Spend minimal time at Khardung La itself. Photos, a quick look around, then move on, since extended stays at this altitude with thin air can trigger symptoms even in fit travelers.

The drive along the Shyok River offers some of Ladakh's most dramatic scenery, the road tracing the water's edge through canyon-like terrain before climbing toward Pangong. The lake itself, stretching into Tibet and changing color through the day, rewards the long drive completely. Camp stays here mean a night under genuinely unpolluted stars, the Milky Way visible in a way most travelers have never actually seen.

Chang La, another high pass crossing well above 17,000 feet, brings you back toward Leh through a different route than you arrived by, offering fresh views of the changing terrain. Back in Leh by evening, with a full night's rest in a proper hotel bed feeling earned after two days at extreme altitude.

A relaxed day after the high-altitude stretch. Visit Leh Palace, modeled loosely on Lhasa's Potala Palace, and the Shanti Stupa for sweeping views over the town at sunset. Spend the afternoon browsing Leh's main market for Pashmina shawls, Tibetan jewelry, and local handicrafts.

A final breakfast before your transfer to Leh airport. Seven days of high passes, surreal lakes, and landscapes that genuinely don't resemble anywhere else in India.
