Want us to call you?
White stretches to the horizon in every direction at the Rann, salt crust crunching underfoot, the sky turning impossible shades of orange and pink as the sun drops over what looks like the edge of the earth. Two days earlier, you were standing inside a 4,500-year-old Harappan citadel at Dholavira, tracing stone water reservoirs engineered by a civilization that predates most of recorded history. Few trips in India swing this hard between the surreal and the ancient, in a single circuit.
Pulling it off requires more than enthusiasm. Rann Tent Resort slots vanish fast during festival season, sometimes months ahead. Dholavira sits remote enough that getting there and back without proper planning eats up an entire day. Entry permits, ground transit across the salt flats, and timing the White Rann sunset correctly all need someone managing it from the ground up.
Samisha Holidays runs this Rann Utsav Dholavira family package as a fully escorted circuit from Ahmedabad, with every reservation, permit, and transfer arranged before you even land. Our local coordinator handles the logistics. You handle the experience.

Itinerary (Day Wise)
Touch down in Ahmedabad and head straight toward history. Modhera Sun Temple, built in the 11th century to align precisely with the equinox sun, greets you with carved stepped tanks and pillars etched with mythological detail at every turn. From there, continue to the Little Rann of Kutch, home to the endangered Indian Wild Ass found nowhere else on the planet. An evening safari across the cracked salt flats, flamingos sometimes wading in the distance, sets the tone for everything still ahead.
The drive across the salt desert to Dholavira feels like crossing into a different geological age, flat white terrain stretching uninterrupted for miles. Dholavira itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reveals one of the most sophisticated urban civilizations in human history — a citadel, middle town, and lower town laid out with stone-cut precision, alongside water reservoirs engineered to capture and store every drop in this arid region. Walking through it, the scale of Harappan planning becomes impossible to ignore.
The 'Road to Heaven', a narrow strip of tarmac slicing through endless white salt on both sides, ranks among India's most photographed drives, and seeing it in person still outdoes every photo. Arrive at the Rann Tent Resort, your luxury AC tent city for the next two nights, and settle in before heading out for the evening's main event. White Rann at sunset turns from blinding white to gold to deep violet within an hour, while Kutchi folk music and traditional dance performances fill the festival grounds nearby.
Few experiences match watching sunrise break over the White Rann, the salt catching the first light before the day's heat sets in. From there, visit Nirona village for a rare, hands-on look at Rogan Art — a 400-year-old textile painting technique using castor oil paste, kept alive by just one family in the entire country. The day closes at the Vande Mataram Memorial in Bhuj, where an immersive 4D experience walks through India's freedom struggle in a format that genuinely surprises most visitors.
Shrujan's handicraft center showcases Kutch's legendary embroidery traditions, with local artisans demonstrating techniques passed down through generations of women in the region. Smriti Van, built as a memorial forest following the devastating 2001 Bhuj earthquake, blends quiet remembrance with genuine architectural ambition — an underground museum cut into the hillside itself. Round off the day exploring Bhuj's royal palaces, where Kutch's princely history sits preserved in faded grandeur.
The final stretch back to Ahmedabad gives one last look at Gujarat's open highways before the trip wraps up. Arrive in time for your onward flight or train, six days of salt deserts, ancient ruins, and living crafts now folded into the memory.
