Chinar leaves don’t just change color in Kashmir’s autumn; they set the entire valley on fire. Deep crimson canopies line Srinagar’s avenues through October and into November, dropping a slow rain of red and gold over Mughal-era gardens that look almost staged for the season. Pahalgam’s meadows turn amber, the Lidder river running clear and cold beneath it all, while Gulmarg’s higher slopes start catching their first dusting of early snow.

This is Kashmir at its most photogenic, and arguably its most underrated season. Summer gets the crowds. Autumn gets the colors, the calmer pace, and weather that’s crisp without being punishing.

Samisha Holidays runs this Kashmir Autumn Special Tour as a fully escorted 7-day circuit, every garden visit, valley excursion, and Gondola pass arranged well ahead of your arrival.

Tour Highlights
Itinerary (Day Wise)

Land in Srinagar and settle into your hotel before the valley's slower autumn rhythm takes over. As evening light turns gold over Dal Lake, board a Shikara for a quiet ride past floating gardens, the surrounding chinar trees already shifting into their seasonal red. A relaxed dinner closes out day one.

Spend the day among Srinagar's terraced Mughal Gardens, Nishat and Shalimar both lined with centuries-old chinar trees that turn the entire pathway into a canopy of deep red and orange this time of year. Climb up to Shankaracharya Hill in the afternoon, where the temple at the summit offers a sweeping view of the whole valley, lake and city laid out below with the autumn-colored hillsides ringing the horizon.

The drive to Pahalgam winds through countryside turning gradually more golden, poplar and chinar trees lining the route in patches of color. Arrive in the "Valley of Shepherds" by afternoon, the Lidder river running fast and clear alongside town, framed by hillsides already deep into their autumn palette.

Local vehicles, mandatory for this stretch and arranged in advance on our end, take you into Aru Valley, wide meadows backed by pine forest turning amber at the edges. Betaab Valley follows, river-cut and quiet, autumn light filtering through trees that have mostly shed their summer green. A walk along the Lidder River rounds out the day, the water loud enough to drown out everything else.

Leave Pahalgam and head toward Kokernag, stopping en route at the Martand Sun Temple ruins, 8th-century stone columns standing in weathered isolation against open sky. Kokernag's botanical gardens, fed by one of Kashmir's largest natural freshwater springs, offer a final burst of autumn color before the terrain shifts toward Gulmarg's higher altitude tomorrow.

The drive to Gulmarg climbs into alpine territory, autumn's gold giving way to early frost and, depending on timing, the season's first snow dusting the higher peaks. The Phase 1 Gondola ride lifts you toward Kongdoori, Pir Panjal ridgelines spread out in every direction, autumn color still visible in the lower valleys even as the air up top turns properly cold.

A final morning in Gulmarg before the drive back to Srinagar for your departure transfer. Seven days of chinar red, river valleys, and ancient ruins, in a season most travelers never think to book.
