Hanoi’s Old Quarter never quite goes quiet. Scooters weave through narrow lanes stacked with street food stalls, French colonial buildings lean against centuries-old pagodas, and the night market hums until well past dark. Two days later, you’re floating through Ha Long Bay, thousands of limestone karsts rising straight out of emerald water, the kind of scene that looks digitally enhanced until you’re actually standing on the deck watching it pass by.
This contrast, urban energy on one end and pure natural drama on the other, makes North Vietnam one of the most rewarding short international trips available, and an ideal, affordable first international escape for travelers who haven’t gone abroad before.
Samisha Holidays runs this Vietnam tour package 4N/5D from Pune as a fully managed circuit, every cave entry, cruise lunch, and AC transfer arranged in advance by a trusted Pune-based travel partner.

Itinerary (Day Wise)
Land in Hanoi and get welcomed at the airport for a smooth transfer into the city. Once settled, head out to the Old Quarter as evening sets in, where narrow lanes packed with street food vendors, tailor shops, and tiny coffee stalls create the kind of sensory overload that's genuinely fun to wander through without a fixed plan. If your visit lines up with the weekend, the Night Market takes over several streets entirely, stalls selling everything from silk scarves to grilled corn late into the evening.
A full day exploring Hanoi's layered history with an English-speaking guide. Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum stands as a solemn, heavily guarded monument to Vietnam's revolutionary leader, while the nearby One Pillar Pagoda offers a quieter, more intimate contrast, balanced on a single stone column above a small lotus pond. The Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first national university dating back to 1070, reveals centuries of Confucian scholarly tradition through its courtyards and stone stelae. A walk through the French Quarter rounds out the afternoon, colonial-era villas and tree-lined boulevards offering a completely different architectural mood. The evening's Water Puppet Show closes the day, a uniquely Vietnamese art form where puppeteers standing waist-deep in water bring folk tales to life through music and motion.
The drive from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay takes a few hours, and the payoff is immediate once you board your day cruise. Thousands of limestone karsts rise out of the water in every direction, a UNESCO World Heritage seascape that genuinely looks different from every angle the boat turns. Explore Sung Sot Cave, known as the "Cave of Surprises," its chambers opening into unexpectedly large caverns lit to highlight centuries of natural rock formation. Lunch gets served onboard as the cruise continues weaving between karsts, followed by kayaking or a bamboo boat ride at sea level, close enough to touch the limestone walls rising on either side.
Ninh Binh earns its nickname "Ha Long Bay on Land" almost immediately. Hoa Lu, Vietnam's ancient 10th-century capital, sits tucked between limestone mountains, its temples dedicated to early Vietnamese kings still standing amid quiet rural surroundings. The highlight of the day comes at Tam Coc, where a traditional rowing boat, often paddled by foot by local oarsmen, glides through rice fields and directly into limestone cave tunnels barely wide enough for the boat to pass through.
A relaxed final morning for last-minute souvenir shopping, Vietnamese coffee, lacquerware, and silk goods all popular picks before your transfer to Hanoi Airport. Five days, one cruise through living legend-status karsts, and a city that never really slowed down the entire time you were in it.
