Coconut palms lean over still water, a houseboat drifts past paddy fields sitting below sea level, and somewhere a kingfisher dives for its evening catch. This is Kerala doing what it does best — slow, green, unhurried, exactly the reputation behind “God’s Own Country.” Four days later, you’re standing in Munnar’s tea gardens, mist rolling over hills clipped into impossibly neat rows, the temperature having dropped a good ten degrees from the coast.
Kerala rewards travelers who get the sequencing right — backwaters, coast, and hills each need their own pace, and rushing any one of them defeats the purpose of coming here at all.
Samisha Holidays runs this 4N/5D Kerala tour from Pune as a fully arranged circuit, private AC transport included end to end, so the only thing you’re managing is which houseboat deck chair to sit in next.

Itinerary (Day Wise)
Land in Kochi and ease into Kerala’s rhythm from the very first hour. Fort Kochi’s old quarter mixes Portuguese, Dutch, and British-era buildings along narrow lanes, with the iconic Chinese fishing nets silhouetted against the harbor at sunset. A short visit to a spice market fills the air with cardamom and pepper before you settle in for the night, well rested ahead of tomorrow’s backwater journey.
Board your private houseboat at Alleppey, often called the Venice of the East, and let the engine cut out once you’re deep into the backwaters. Paddy fields stretch below canal level, village life unfolds along the banks, and a fresh Kerala lunch gets cooked right onboard as you drift past Kumarakom’s narrower channels. Evening brings a stop near a quiet lighthouse point before you anchor for the night, dinner served on deck under a sky that’s noticeably starrier away from city lights.
Varkala breaks Kerala’s usual beach mold entirely — dramatic red cliffs drop straight into the Arabian Sea, with natural springs trickling down the rock face in spots. Spend the day along the cliff promenade, browsing cafes and shops perched right at the edge, or head down to the beach itself for a swim in water that’s calmer than most of India’s coastline. Sunset here, watched from the cliff top, ranks among Kerala’s best.
The drive up to Munnar climbs steadily, temperature dropping with every switchback until tea estates take over the entire landscape. Walk through working plantations, visit a tea museum to see how raw leaves become your morning cup, and take in viewpoints where the hills roll out in shades of green that shift with the light. Eravikulam National Park, home to the rare Nilgiri Tahr, sits nearby for those wanting a short wildlife detour.
A final relaxed morning before the drive back to Kochi for your onward flight. Five days, three completely different landscapes, and a phone full of photos that still won’t quite capture how green this state really is.
